PDF to flashcards

Turn a PDF into flashcards you can check

Upload lecture notes, a textbook chapter or a past paper as a PDF. Mnema writes flashcards and quiz questions from it, and each card made from it shows the passage and the page it came from.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload the PDF

Up to 25 MB and 500 pages. Pages, headings and tables are kept, so each card knows where it came from. Word and text files work too.

  2. 2

    Say what you need

Mnema asks only what it still needs, such as how many cards and in which shape. Name the chapter you want and the cards come from it.

  3. 3

    Check, then study

Each draft shows its passage, its page and whether a second check found it in the PDF. Keep, edit or delete it, then study with spaced repetition, cram mode or a quiz.

Why the page matters

An AI flashcard is only useful if it says what your material says. With the page beside each card, checking it takes a second, and in study the card's source opens your PDF inside Mnema at that page with the sentence highlighted.

A card that rewords the PDF says “wording added by AI”, and a card from general knowledge says so plainly.

Scanned PDFs and question sheets

A scanned PDF with no text layer, up to 40 pages, is read page by page, and its cards still carry their page numbers. Reading a scanned page costs credits, like reading a photo.

A numbered sheet of exam questions with answers becomes one card per question, each with its own answer.

Questions

How big can the PDF be?

Up to 25 MB and 500 pages. A scanned PDF with no text layer can have up to 40 pages.

Can I make cards from one chapter only?

Yes. Say the part you want, for example “chapter 3”, and the cards are written from it.

Can it make a quiz from the PDF?

Yes. Ask for quiz questions instead of flashcards; each one shows its page the same way.

Is Mnema free?

Mnema is free during invite-only early access. Request early access and start with your own PDFs.

Make cards you can check

Before you save, each AI card shows its passage and its page, slide, time or web page, says how far to trust it, and says whether a second check found it in the source.
